Fed: ACCI supporting new layer of industry bureaucracy - Labor
Labor says a leading employer body has a philosophy of industry deregulation, yet it's
supporting a whole new layer of bureaucracy with the setting up of a construction industry
watchdog.
Labor Senator PETER COOK says the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry appears
to be in conflict with its philosophy by supporting an Australian Building and Construction
Commission.
The federal government wants to set up the building and construction commission --
a key recommendation of the Cole Royal Commission.
But the Senate is holding an inquiry into the issue before voting on it.
ACCI spokesman PETER ANDERSON has disagreed with Senator COOK's comments at the inquiry,
and says the chamber has never supported a system where there's no regulation at all in
general industrial matters.
